South American Purple Corn is one of the most concentrated natural sources of antioxidants, and a particularly rich source of C3G. The people of the Peruvian Andes have used purple corn to help support overall health and wellbeing for thousands of years. Recent investigations have discovered the deep purple kernels of this plant are rich in phenols called anthocyanins – the same antioxidant pigments that give blueberries their high ORAC value (Oxygen Radical Absorbency Capacity). In fact purple corn’s anthocyanin content is over 4 times that of blueberries and has approximately twice the ORAC value of pomegranates. The most abundant anthocyanin in purple corn is naturally occurring C3G. In a study of 13 anthocyanins tested for antioxidant activity, C3G was found to be the most potent.
